Morning Briefing for pub, restaurant and food wervice operators

Tue 6th Nov 2018 - Deliveroo increases restaurant partners to 17,000, new exclusive deals with PizzaExpress, Wagamama and Azzurri Group
Deliveroo increases restaurant partners to 17,000, new exclusive deals with PizzaExpress, Wagamama and Azzurri Group: Deliveroo has increased the number of restaurants and takeaways available on its platform to 17,000. It has also announced the latest in a series of exclusive partnerships as PizzaExpress and Barburrito leave other food delivery services to become exclusive with Deliveroo. Meanwhile, Wagamama and Azzurri Group, which operates Zizzi, ASK Italian and Coco di Mama, have extended their exclusive deals with the company. PizzaExpress, in partnership with Deliveroo, currently delivers almost 25,000 pizzas a week to customers and said it sees significant potential to grow this channel. It has already invested in better packaging and kitchen equipment and said it would continue to look at ways of innovating to “improve the customer experience”. The increased number of restaurants on the platform combined with other changes such as Deliveroo’s Marketplace+ service means the average Deliveroo customer has more than 100 restaurants to order from – double the number at the start of the year. Of the top 40 casual dining and fast food chains in the UK, more than 90% are available on Deliveroo, half of them exclusively, the company said. Meanwhile, Deliveroo continues to roll out its Marketplace+ service across the UK. Earlier this year, the delivery firm was acclaimed the fastest-growing company in Europe and the company’s accounts for the year ending 31 December 2017 reveal revenue increased 116% to £277m. Deliveroo UK and Ireland managing director Dan Warne said: “Thanks to our restaurant partners, our fleet of riders and the technology that powers us we are able to deliver more choices. That is why we continue to grow at a phenomenal rate across the UK.” PizzaExpress managing director Zoe Bowley said: “Customers are increasingly opting to enjoy their favourite PizzaExpress pizza at home and, by exclusively partnering with Deliveroo, it means we can serve more customers, more often.” Azzurri Group chief executive Steve Holmes added: “Delivery is now a key part of our business and we have ambitions to continue to develop and grow this channel.”
